The Journey - whole school writing project
Inspired by the fantastic picture book, The Journey by Aaron Becker, every child in the school is taking part in our school-wide writing competition. These will be judged first by the other class teachers in their phase, then by Mr Turner and Mrs Bishop and finally by the chair of governors! There will be one ultimate winner per year group receiving a prize, as well as a best improvement in handwriting prize per class.
To begin their ‘journey’ and gain inspiration for their writing, KS1 transformed our wooded area into a magic doorway, like in the book, and the younger children experienced what it would be like to go through a magic doorway into a lantern lit forest with a ‘stream’ running through. The children all experienced a magical few hours making up stories, creating characters and exploring their fantasy land!
Years 5 and 6 drew and painted images from the book using watercolours to produce stunning landscapes, while the children in Mrs Jacks' class took part in a drama session to create freeze-frame scenes.
With creativity flowing fast, we cannot wait to see their finished writing!
