New House Teams for Ridgeway
This term we have renamed our House Teams after brilliant, inspiring and ground-breaking individuals. People that inspire and did remarkable things.
Marie Curie (Yellow): Curie is most famous for her research into radioactivity, a term that she coined herself. She won two Nobel Prizes and discovered the elements polonium and radium. Her research into radium led to the development of a treatment to cure cancer.
Alan Turing (Red): Turing's most notable work today is as a computer scientist. In 1936, he developed the idea for the Universal Turing Machine, the basis for the first computer. His code breaking skills during WW2 enabled the allies to defeat Nazi Germany.
Sir David Attenborough (Blue): Attenborough is an English broadcaster, writer, and naturalist who is noted for his innovative educational television programs, especially the nine-part Life series. He is a champion for wild life and the planet and grew up in Leicestershire.
Katherine Johnson (Green): Johnson was a NASA mathematician who played a key role in during the Space Race, most notably calculating the trajectory needed to get the Apollo 11 mission to the moon and back. She overcame social boundaries and racial discrimination, and her impressive career was the subject of the book and movie, "Hidden Figures."
Some of our children have moved House Teams to even out the numbers across all year groups - we thank them for helping to get this year off to a flying start!
